Emission nebula lighted up by (Xi Persei, upper center of the image) which is part of an association of very hot stars that were born from the California nebula.This is a "true color" H-alpha, SII and OIII image made according to the article in the December 2011 issue of Sky and Telescope, p. 70. We clearly see that OIII prevails between Menkhib and the main part of the SII and H-alpha nebula.
