SH2-101 Tulip Nebula
Cyg
6000 light years

H II region emission nebula. This is a "true color" H-alpha, SII and OIII image made according to the article in the December 2011 issue of Sky and Telescope, p. 70. This coloration highlights the wealth of OIII in this region and the many clouds of absorbing gas; large dark nebula (Barnard 144) seems to be a development defect in the image. The dark filaments left to the nebula are Barnard 147.
